.
The Blue Economy Forum, organized by Legambiente in Rome as part of the European project Life Sea.Net, forcefully called for «A greener blue economy for the protection of marine biodiversity and for the support of small-scale fishing, a fundamental economic sector for Italy, and even more so for the South and the islands».
.
In the second session dedicated to the responsible use of marine resources, Elisa Scocchera spoke, Legambiente representative for the scientific office and for LIFE Muscles, with a report on the creation of supply chains forcircular economy.

The three sessions of the Blue Economy Forum addressed the role of marine protected areas, the efficiency of the governance of Natura 2000 marine sites and their expansion in Italy, the protection of marine biodiversity and the negative impact of the climate crisis on the maritime economy and it turned out that «The blue economy is booming but needs a shift towards greater sustainability."
.
Among the good practices Legambiente indicates our European Life Muscles project which sees it as the leader and which has its target areas in Puglia and Liguria where, with the involvement of mussel farmers and fishermen, various actions are carried out, with a view to the circular economy, to recycle the nets used for farming of mussels and reduce their dispersion in the marine environment. Furthermore, the diffusion of biopolymer retinas is expected which will replace the classic plastic retinas.
