The second monitoring visit on our LIFE MUSCLES was held on 23 and 24 March in Chioggia, at the headquarters of the project partner Rom Plastic Srl
An important appointment that allowed the company to monitor timesis Agnese Roccato to evaluate the progress of the actions. The coordinator of the lead partner Legambiente, Marzia Mattioli, conducted the first part of the visit, describing the work, the results achieved and the products created; each representative of the responsible partner integrated and deepened the aspects of each action. But the two days in Chioggia, a beautiful town in the Venice lagoon, was also an invaluable meeting opportunity for the entire team that shares the goal of making mussel farming more sustainable. From convivial moments to a visit to the Rom Plastica plants, a leading company in the production of packaging and nets for the fishing industry, all together the representatives of the partnership were able to learn about the manufacturing process of socks for mussel farming and became a more precise idea of the mobile recycling plant which from the end of summer 2023 will be available to mussel farmers in the north of the Gargano.
Furthermore, for the first time, thanks to the face-to-face meeting, there was the possibility of deepening the structure and characteristics of the nets made with biodegradable and compostable biopolymers made by Rom Plastica following the supply of biopolymers by Novamont: currently there are 3 formulations that have given rise to as many prototypes.
It will be decided on the basis of further technical tests, which will be the final product that will be tested in the nursery.
All the partners were present, even if some - unfortunately - still remotely.
